DESCRIPTION:Blending Sustainability\, Wellness Design and Innovation into a
 n Urban Campus\nThe Southline project is planned as a state-of-the-art tra
 nsit oriented commercial campus located in the City of South San Francisco
 \, transforming 28 acres of aging and underutilized light industrial and w
 arehouse buildings into a high-quality integrated campus in three phases.\
 n\nProject team Architects (DES) and Amenities Building Structural Enginee
 r (Holmes) will dive into the design journey and collaboration\, community
 -forward\, transit-friendly campus planning\, carbon reduction and LEED ce
 rtification\, and wellness design strategies of the first two completed bu
 ildings within the first phase.\n\n\n\nAttendees will first tour the all-e
 lectric mass timber Amenities building that is crafted from cross-laminate
 d timber and glue-laminated timber to reduce its carbon footprint. Beyond 
 its all-natural aesthetics\, this building is also the recipient of the 20
 25 Fitwel's "Best in Building Health" Award. They will then tour the 317\,
 500 sq. ft.\, 6-story steel-framed building that is designed for flexibili
 ty for both science research and office uses\, with sustainability and the
  well-being of the occupants in mind.\n\n\n\n\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n&nb
 sp\;\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nMeet our Presenters!\n\n\n\nKartik Gathani 
  |  Project Manager\, DES\n\nSince joining DES in 2006\, Kartik has succe
 ssfully completed projects with challenging scopes and complexity. He brin
 gs a proactive and responsive management approach\, and his experience inc
 ludes a wide-range of\nprojects from large\, complex research centers to f
 ast-tracked tenant improvements. Kartik received a Masters of Architecture
  from the University of New Mexico and BArch from the Academy of Architect
 ure\, Mumbai\, India.\n\nDona Shah  |  Project Designer\, DES\n\nDona ha
 s extensive experience in master planning and entitling life science campu
 ses and works closely with her clients to understand their visions and ens
 ure that they are realized. Her experience in the design of state-of-the-a
 rt R&amp\;D buildings and campuses allows her to recognize opportunities a
 nd study alternative approaches to the design of the many aspects of a pro
 ject. Dona received a Bachelor of Architecture\, University of Bombay.\n\n
 Chris Mateo  |  Landscape Architect\, DES\n\nChris has over seventeen ye
 ars of landscape architecture experience. During this time\, he has focuse
 d on designing forward-thinking landscapes for office and R&amp\;D campuse
 s. He is well-regarded for his ability to create spaces that honor each si
 te's unique sense of place and natural beauty while providing highly funct
 ional outdoor spaces for users. Chris received a Master's in Landscape Arc
 hitecture\, Cornell University and Bachelor's in City and Regional Plannin
 g at California Polytechnic State University\, San Luis Obispo. \n\nNick 
 Sherrow-Groves  |  Amenities Building Structural Engineer\, GPLA (former
 ly Holmes)\n\nNick is a structural engineer with over 14 years' experience
  designing and managing a wide variety of projects\, including a psychiatr
 ic hospital\, many large-scale art projects\, two mass timber amenity buil
 dings\, and several office buildings. His experience includes extensive de
 sign and detailing in many different materials\, including mass timber. On
  Southline\, he served as the Structural Project Manager.\n\nErik Kneer | 
 Amenities Building Structural Principal\, GPLA (Formerly Holmes)\n\nLearni
 ng Objectives:\n\nAfter attending this program\, participants will be able
  to:\n\n 	Learn to communicate with clients about their priorities\, proce
 ss\, and criteria for a flexible and sustainable project.\n 	Discuss desig
 n strategies for effective transit\, walkable paths\, and achieving LEED G
 old and 2025 Fitwel's "Best in Building Health" Awards on a cost-conscious
  budget.\n 	Study critical issues on structural systems when implementing 
 an exposed cross-laminated timber and glu-lam structural system.\n 	Discus
 s biophilic and wellness design approaches that optimize indoor air qualit
 y\, daylighting and natural building materials to prioritize the well-bein
