The Women in Architecture (WIA) Committee of AIA Silicon Valley and the AIA San Mateo County chapters are hosting a joint Career-Building panel and workshop. The Workshop will be held on Wednesday March 2, 2022 from 5:00-6:30 pm PST, via zoom. The goal is to help recent graduates, emerging professionals, and anyone who is looking for a job. The following panelists will be presenting and guiding the workshops, discussing skills in these areas:

  • Positioning Tips [Mani A. Farhadi]
  •  Resume & Portfolio Review [Dick Smith]
  •  Interview Skills [Pamela Anderson Brule]

Mani Farhadi, Associate AIA, will share specific examples from how networking can lead to landing jobs, and give ideas for how to strategically be positioned for employment consideration. Dick Smith, AIA works with students on Resume / Portfolio building, and has advice to share on formatting, design and information to include. Pamela Anderson Brule, FAIA will talk about interviewing skills, based on decades of hiring practices and having led mentoring activities for AIA SCV in the past. She was inspired to help others after achieving her AIA Fellowship.

After the panel presents on each of these topics, there will be 3 breakout sessions at 15-minutes each, led by the speakers on their topic. You will be placed alternately in each breakout session and have an opportunity to interact and engage with the speakers in the smaller group setting. We want attendees to have a meaningful experience and walk away with practical steps for finding and securing employment. Once completed, the group resumes back on zoom as a whole to share thoughts and lessons learned.
