Why Join a Committee
Whether your passion is in helping emerging professionals and young architects pass their exams, advocating for more sustainable projects in San Mateo County, or engaging with legislators and city planners, Joining a committee would be the way to help with that.
Committees are the foundations from which the chapter positions itself in the field of architecture, whether through discussion, advocacy, policy making and development, or other endeavors. Committees initiate the majority of the chapter’s programs, and are the main avenue for direct involvement with AIA San Mateo County.

Advocacy
AIA is the voice of architecture to legislators at the federal, state, and local level. Here you can engage your legislators and use AIA tools and resources to develop skills as an advocate to build power for architects.
Committee on the Environment (COTE)
We believe that design excellence is the foundation of a healthy, sustainable, and equitable future. Our work promotes design strategies that empower all AIA members to realize the best social and environmental outcomes with the clients and the communities they serve.
Communications Committee
The AIASMC Communications Committee leads the ongoing discussion of how best to provide chapter resources to our members, collaborators, and the general public. By providing timely and helpful information to a broad audience, we strive to create more awareness around topics and events that are vital to architecture as an environment, a business practice, and an industry that has local and global impact.
Emerging Professionals
Dedicated to furthering the professional development of all young architects. Our mission is to create community, support career development and foster the next generation leaders in our profession.
Scholarships
The scholarship awards program is intended to encourage and assist students already enrolled in college in their pursuit of a degree in architecture at a college or university level.
Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (EDI)
AIA San Mateo County champions a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion within the profession of architecture to create a better environment for all. Achieving this vision has a direct impact on the relevance of our profession and the world’s prosperity, health, and future.
