Mission
To achieve climate action and climate justice through design. We believe that design excellence is the foundation of a healthy, sustainable, and equitable future. Our work promotes design strategies that empower all AIA members to realize the best social and environmental outcomes with the clients and the communities they serve.

Goals
- Help architects transform their practices for climate action and climate justice
- Elevate stories about people, buildings, and positive change
- Advocating for the AIA 2030 commitment
- Advocating for more sustainable projects in San Mateo County and working with the local government to achieve that
- Work with San Mateo College to have more emphasis on sustainable design in their curriculum
- Advocating for LEED, WELL, Fitwel, etc.
- Adapting the AIA framework for design excellence (formerly the COTE Top Ten Measures)
- Implementing the common app design excellence form in future design awards program
Programs
- Organizing workshops and learning sessions
- Organizing panel discussions with local building officials, planning department, contractors, developers, clients
- Provide resources to help implement sustainable design strategies to our members
- Tours of green buildings
Tyler Jex Moslander, Assoc. AIA
Associates Director and COTE Committee Chair

Tyler was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah where he attended Salt Lake Community College. After graduating with his associate’s degree in architectural technology, he moved to the bay area in 2022 to establish his professional career. He currently works as a project manager at Bartos Architecture in San Mateo. This firm specializes in educational facilities for K-12. At this firm he has had the opportunity to gain experience in public construction projects.
For the past 6 years, Tyler has volunteered as a camp counselor at Camp Hobé, a pediatric oncology camp. He has served on the year-round planning committee since March of 2023. On this committee he has attended national cancer camp conferences, planned and implemented fundraising events, interviewed and mentored staff/volunteers, and planned upcoming camp sessions. Tyler values volunteer work and his experiences with the public school system as a way to connect with others from different backgrounds and give back to the community.
