2024 Hard Hat Café Site Tour # 4

The Hard Hat Café Site Tour is a bi-monthly series to watch the progressive development of a project currently under construction.

Things are happening fast! The drywall has been installed and the cabinents will be installed before the August 3rd tour.

Susan Ogren will be our guest speaker and will discuss cabinents, cabinent hardware, flooring, countertops, tile in the bathrooms, paint finishes, door styles and hardware, plus more about the finishings.

1. Examine how design principles set early in the project helped to guide choices in finishes to create a cohesive, functional, and comfortable environment.

2. Explain how the interior layout of the house addresses functionality and spatial relationships, including how different rooms and areas interact to support the daily activities of its occupants. Discuss the flow between spaces, zoning of private vs. public areas, and how the design accommodates various functions.

3. Identify and describe the materials and finishes used in the interior design, and explain their impact on aesthetics, durability, and maintenance. Review key materials such as flooring, wall coverings, and cabinetry, and discuss how these choices contribute to the overall design vision and practical aspects of the space.

   4. Assess the lighting design and its role in enhancing the interior environment, including natural light, artificial lighting, and the use of lighting to accentuate design features. Discuss evaluation of different types of lighting (ambient, task, accent) and their placement, as well as how lighting contributes to the mood, functionality, and energy efficiency of the space.

5. Discuss sustainable design practices incorporated into the interior planning and how they contribute to the house’s energy efficiency and environmental impact. Address elements like energy-efficient appliances, sustainable materials, and design strategies that reduce the home’s carbon footprint and promote long-term ecological benefits.
