ADA Training Part 1
August 17, 2004
The ADA training will take place over two August Saturdays.
August 17th and August 31st from 9:00 am – 11:30 am
Each will be 2.5 hours and you will earn 2.5 HSWs for each session. Attend both Saturdays and recieve 5 HSWs
Presenter: Jan Garrrett
Jan Garrett serves as the Deputy Director of ADA Programs for the Pacific ADA Center at the Public Health Institute (PHI). She has over 25 years of experience providing guidance and training on the ADA and other disability rights laws for businesses, state and local governments, architects, people with disabilities, and others. As a person with a lived experience of disability, Jan has a deeply personal understanding of why disability civil rights are so important.
Course Description: Designing for accessibility: how to make sites and buildings accessible, safe, and usable for all.
Day 1: August 17, 2024 – 9:00-11:30 AM
Title: From arrival to the building interior: accessibility of the site and building routes and building blocks.
Accessible routes
- Participants will learn where accessible routes are required from site arrival points.
- Participants will understand the recent California Building Code (CBC) Chapter 11B requirements for raised circulation paths.
- Participants will learn how to distinguish between the CBC and ADA requirements for accessible routes within a facility.
- Attendees will review the accessibility requirements for accessible routes and accessible toilet rooms in multistory buildings.
Building blocks
- Participants will learn where wheelchair turning space is required.
- Attendees will understand the key factors that influence the minimum requirements for clear floor space.
- Participants will be able to identify what requirements are included in the concept of operable parts.
- Attendees will learn how to identify and fix a protruding object.
Detectable warnings
- Participants will learn where detectable warnings are required under CBC and ADA
- Participants will understand where the directional texture should be placed.
- Participants will be able to identify color and contrast requirements of detectable warnings.
- Attendees will learn about locations where detectable warnings often appear but are not required.
Sessions will be virtual.
When you sign up for both sessions you will recieve a confirmation for the Part 1 Training Program because the PayPal purchase is aligned with the Part 1 Training event. That confirmation will cover the registration and payment of both Part 1 & Part 2 of the ADA Training Sessions.
