AIA SAN MATEO COUNTY ASSISTANT EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The San Mateo County Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) is a 501(c)(6) non-
profit professional organization seeking a part-time Assistant Executive Director. This is a
versatile position wearing many hats and has the potential for long term growth and leadership
within our organization.
LOCAL CANDIDATES PREFERRED
This is a mainly a remote position, but includes responsibilities to assist with in-person event
planning, hosting and other preparation tasks. We support a flexible workplace environment with
cloud-based computing. The chapter will provide pertinent software, but you will be using your
own computer.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Specific responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Communications: Manages and maintains the AIASMC chapter’s website and social media
accounts on a daily basis; share news, events, other chapters, state and national AIA’s
updates as needed via email, newsletter, social media (LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram)
and the website. Curates weekly newsletter with the Executive Director and board members.
AIA San Mateo County’s AIA Continuing Education programming: Promote events through
newsletters, website, and social media.
Programs and Events: Work with the Programming Committee and event chairs to promote,
plan, and execute events. Includes website, newsletter, and social media outreach; tracking
registration and collecting fees; securing venue, catering and electronic requirements for the
speaker, and hosting virtual events on zoom or similar platforms. etc. In-person events will
require travel to the venues and attendance for on-site support.
Membership: Maintain membership roster on website.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
– Currently living in San Mateo County or the vicinity.
– Relevant bachelor’s degree or higher education; comparable work experience will be
considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
– Design and marketing background strongly preferred. Proficient in WordPress (Website
management), LearnDash, Microsoft Office, Google Drive, Zoom and familiarity with
Eventbrite, Mailchimp, Intuit QuickBooks, Instagram, Facebook, Linkedin, and other Adobe
design software.
– Attention to detail and graphic design. Excellent writing and communication skills with a
respectful and collaborative approach to fostering relationships with members, industry
professionals, community leaders, and board members.
– Basic understanding of the AIA, architectural, design, and construction professions and the
role of architects in the public realm.
– Administrative operations experience, including financial management and board relations.

COMPENSATION
The part-time position anticipates an average of 6-8 hours of work per week (at most 32 hours
per month), primarily during business hours, with some evening/weekend hours for meetings,
events (virtual and in-person), and conferences. Local travel is required to support chapter
events.
The hourly rate of pay will be $25 to $32 per hour; the specific amount will be based on the
candidate’s experience.
