2025 Strategic Plan

Building a Stronger Community Through Architecture, Advocacy, and Innovation

Our Mission

AIA San Mateo County advocates for the profession, partners with our local communities to improve the quality and sustainability of the built environment, and enriches its members through the sharing of knowledge and experience.

Our Vision

To help equip our chapter architects to be leaders in advocating for architectural and professional issues of our community.

Strategic Goals & Committees

Our strategic plan is driven by dedicated committees, each led by passionate chairs who set goals aligned with our mission and vision. Together, these committees form the foundation of our chapter’s work, ensuring we serve our members, advance the profession, and positively impact the communities we design for.

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

Fostering an inclusive architectural community that reflects and celebrates the diversity of the people and places we serve. Our EDI committee works to break down barriers, amplify underrepresented voices, and ensure equitable access to opportunities within our profession.

Committee on the Environment

Leading the charge toward sustainable and regenerative design practices. This committee champions environmental stewardship, helps members navigate evolving sustainability standards, and advocates for policies that prioritize climate resilience and ecological health in the built environment.

Emerging Professionals

Empowering the next generation of architects through mentorship, professional development, and networking opportunities. We support early-career architects as they navigate licensure, build their careers, and become engaged leaders in our profession.

Advocacy

Amplifying the voice of architects in civic and policy discussions that shape our communities. Our advocacy efforts ensure that design excellence, public safety, sustainability, and quality of life remain priorities in local, regional, and state decision-making.

CRAN, Housing, and Home Tours

Engaging with critical issues of housing affordability, residential design innovation, and community character. Through the Community Resources and Affordable Neighborhood (CRAN) initiative and educational home tours, we explore solutions to housing challenges while celebrating thoughtful residential architecture.

Scholarship

Investing in the future of architecture by supporting students pursuing architectural education. Our scholarship program provides financial assistance and encouragement to talented individuals who will shape the profession’s next chapter.

Communications and Programming

Keeping our community connected, informed, and inspired. This committee curates compelling programs, manages chapter communications, and creates opportunities for members to learn, share knowledge, and stay engaged with the latest developments in architecture and design.

Membership and Sponsorship

Building and sustaining a vibrant chapter community. By fostering meaningful connections among members and cultivating partnerships with industry sponsors, this committee ensures AIA San Mateo County remains a valuable resource and gathering place for architectural professionals.

Moving Forward Together

Our 2025 Strategic Plan represents our commitment to excellence, innovation, and community impact. Each committee plays a vital role in advancing our mission and realizing our vision. Through collaboration, dedication, and shared purpose, we’re not just building better structures—we’re building a better profession and stronger communities.

We invite all members to get involved, contribute your expertise, and help shape the future of architecture in San Mateo County.
