Starting January 1, 2025, the California Architects Board (CAB) will change how expiration dates are assigned for new licenses. Licenses issued on or after this date will expire two years from the month of issuance, rather than being tied to the licensee’s birth month.

Important Reminders:

  • California requires 5 hours of coursework in Disability Access

  • As of January 1, 2023, 5 hours in Zero Net Carbon Design (ZNCD) is also required

New Starting July 1, 2025:
When renewing online, you must upload your Mandatory Continuing Education (MCE) certificates. CAB has removed the checkbox verification — you’ll need to provide actual documentation at the time of renewal.
