Here are the updates on legislation related to tenants rights / landlord requirements.
Suspended/Inactive: AB-500: If passed, this bill would have allowed landlords to give notice to tenants of rent increases by email.
Suspended/Inactive: SB-466: If passed, this bill would have applied Costa-Hawkins rental rates to condominium units and units sold separately.
APPROVED: SB-567: This bill reduces rent increases limits.
Suspended/Inactive: SB-611: If passed, this bill would have required rental listings to include all up-front costs including deposits, payments, fees, etc.
Suspended/Inactive: SB-863: If passed, this bill would have given tenants longer to cure violations before termination.
APPROVED: AB-1620: This bill permits property owners to relocate tenants with permanent disabilities to available, comparable, or smaller units on the first floor or the building. Lease terms must be retained.
APPROVED: AB-1418: This bill prohibits governments from imposing penalties against residents, tenants, owners, or landlords for contacting local law enforcement. It also prohibits government from requiring/encouraging landlords to perform criminal background checks of any tenants.
